'Reflections on NSC'- by Michael Cheek In just its first season, the NSC has already become the favorite race of most of the top indoor skaters. The atmosphere is unlike any other event, and the racing keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. Being a part of the inaugrural season was a huge honor, and I can't wait for Season 2, starting in November. Going into the race I had a lot going on in my mind. I was still thinking about how I hadn't performed well at Indoor Nationals. The other thing that was really bugging me was in the previous NSC events I hadn't put together a good 100m time trial. So, going in I really wanted to nail a 100m to start things off. I think I was the only one who had a really clean run, and not only did I win, I set an NSC record running an 8.4. The racing, as always, was close and crazy. I was lucky enough to win the 800m Grand Champions race, giving me enough points to win the first ever NSC Grand Championship. At the end of NCS season 1, I was the Overall Grand Champion, won 6 races in 3 events, and set the record in the 100m, 800m, 1000m, and 1600m. The season was great and I can't wait for next years NSC events. Sincerely, your friend in speed skating, Michael Cheek
