Big meets are so much fun. The 2010 Blue Ridge Challenge was held in Hickory, North Carolina. There were around 500 entries and the competition was great. People from up north drove through a blizzard to get to North Carolina, and a lot of people from down south got the opportunity to see snow for the first time. It was one of those meets where everyone seemed to have a good time.

One of the things I’ve always loved doing is going to different clubs practices. I have always loved visiting different teams and seeing how they practiced. It’s never really been about what they do at practice, as much as how they do things at practice. I love seeing different teams attitudes, and just interacting with people. So, when I got the opportunity to write for Luigino, one of the first things I said I wanted to do was to write about different practices I go to.  I’m really not sure how many different clubs I’ll get to visit, but hopefully I will get lots of opportunities.

What is YOUR love of the sport?  My love for the sport isn’t just trying to be the best in the world. People always ask me why I stay in the rink and watch the novice freshman boys race, when I’ve been done racing for 3 hours. It’s a simple answer; I absolutely love it and can’t get enough!  And it’s passion that Luigino wants from me. They want me to represent their company because I truly love skating. To me, loving the sport means loving not only the World Championships, but loving the meet with 100 people in the building. That’s my love, so what is yours?

2009 Pro Men’s Inline Short Track National Champion Benjamin Carey was born and raised in Frenchtown, NJ. As a small boy, he lived above the Roller Rink that his grandfather, Paul Pinkerton, built in 1975. His grandfather put him on skates at 10 months old, his first competitive race was at the age of 2.
